When it goes wrong
The Two Handles
“Pick the handle you can carry.”
Part of the subscriptionEvery trouble has two handles, one hard to carry and one easier. A story about choosing how we hold the things that do not go our way.
The real source
We adapt this idea honestly for a young listener, and the app always names where it comes from. Why real sources matter →
For grown-ups
Any difficult situation has more than one way of being picked up. The child is invited to notice they have a choice in how they carry the day’s frictions — not to suppress feelings, but to find the kinder grip. The better handle is not denial: children should still name unfairness and ask for help.
A little practice: When a child is stuck in a sharp story, ask: is there another handle we can carry this by?
The line your child keeps in Pocket: “Pick the handle you can carry.”
